SFI PhD Scholarship: Ion-responsive self-immolative linkers for drug delivery

A 4-year PhD scholarship is available in the O’Duill group, School of Chemistry, NUI Galway. The multidisciplinary project will investigate selective drug delivery to ion channels by designing ion-responsive self-immolative linkers for hyaluronic acid drug conjugates and lies at the interface of synthetic chemistry, polymer chemistry, materials and biochemistry. The research programme will be carried out in collaboration with the Centre for Research in Medical Devices (CÚRAM)—a national, SFI-funded, €49.6m research centre—and will encourage networking and strong clinical and industrial collaborations. The successful candidate will be provided with training and development opportunities designed to support his/her personal career development plans.
The scholarship, funded by CÚRAM, includes EU tuition fees, an annual stipend of €18,500 and a contribution to training and travel. Candidates will be expected to hold a Master’s degree in Chemistry and experience in synthetic organic chemistry is highly desirable. The starting date of the scholarship is September 1st 2018.
